Setting your Meta Tag Description in Blogger

Today I would like to show you all how to set your Meta Tag Description in Blogger. Meta Tags are basically a way for search engines to find out what your blog content is all about. This will help you get listed in search engines if you use them correctly.

To set your description, follow these steps.

1. Click on Settings then Search Preferences
2. Then under the Meta Tags title, click the radio button YES to "Enable search description"
3. Now enter your description. This description needs to be a compelling summary of your blog. You are allowed up to 150 characters. Click "save" once you are done. You can go back and edit this at any time.

For instance, my description is "A blog about website, blog and graphic design. As well as my sewing creations and tutorials. Hint tips and ideas."

If you would like to learn more, please check out Google's page by following this link - Google Webmaster.

Now you have successfully added a Meta Description to your blog. Well done!

Lady of Huntingdon

I am part of a crafting group on Facebook, and the other day one of the ladies there posted a link to her Mum's blog. In a nutshell she said that her Mum had started a blog but no one was "following" her and that she was getting very disheartened by it all. She had recently come out of a slump after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Anyhoo, I decided to help this lady and give her blog an overhaul to help get boost her self esteem. She doesn't really have any knowledge about setting up a blog so although she had content, she was using the basic blue template with no images to catch the eye. I asked her what her favourite colours are, favourite themes and if she loved the look of any other websites or blogs out there. Pink, Purple and White were her colours, 50's-60's Glamour Housewife was her theme and her fav website is SAHM.

This is what I came up with:

Since making the changes Mel now has a small following with many more to come I am sure. You can see her blog here - Lady of Huntingdon

Building up an audience is not as easy as it seems. Have you ever watched the movie Field of Dreams? If so, you will recognise this phrase "If you build it, they will come" Well, that doesn't really apply in the world of web. You need to work hard to build an audience by linking and networking. Go around to like minded blogs and become fans of theirs, comment on posts you like and link back to your own blog. Make sure that you get your friends and family on board as well and get them to follow your page. You should also set up your keywords so that you are being listed in Google under the right keywords. I will do a post on this shortly (applicable to Blogger).

Thanks for reading!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. Here I would like to share my creations with you - whether they be sewing or web design or anything in between!

I have dabbled in web design since 2008 but I have only recently decided to get serious about it and to do a course. It starts in July at Grenadi School of Design. To say I am excited is an understatement. My friends have been telling me for a long time that I should go into business building websites and blogs so if they believe in me, I have decided it is definitely time to believe in myself. So I would love to share my journey with you all.

Please contact me if you would like any info or help with your own website, blog or design needs.

Thanks for stopping by!
